Strike Commando
Mike Ransom (Reb Brown) is the commander of an elite commando group operating in Vietnam. Betrayed by his Commanding Officer, Mike Ransom is the last surviving member of his squad. Now lost in enemy territory and under constant threat from the Viet-Cong led by Russian soldiers Mike Ransom must fight his way back to base and get vengeance!
But Mike Ransom is no ordinary soldier; a master of jungle warfare,
Mike Ransom is the jungle!
Just to make sure you got it, I'll say it again: he's in Vietnam, fighting the Russians! (Don't ask me why they're there! Well, that is apart from the fact that there are Russians in Rambo First Blood Part 2 and the scriptwriters were too lazy to write their own script.)
Reb Brown is once again superb bringing his own inimitable style to
Strike Commando. He manages to shout his way through every scene, even
whilst in conversation. In one challenging scene he finds a dying
Vietminese kid who asks him about Disneyland, Reb takes this
opportunity to reveal the depth of his emotion by blubbering like a
big girl as he tells him about what flavours of ice cream they have.
Brilliant! Bravest of all he has decided to act out all his action
scenes whilst RUNNING LIKE A GIRL … Reb Brown we salute you!
The Viet-Cong soldiers provide plenty of cannon fodder - and SBIF fodder. They are so inept as to be unable to retaliate in any way when being attacked, let alone soot back. They fall around dead in their swathes as Ransom fires at them with his heavy machinegun – without apparently attempting to aim at all. It is hilarious to watch soldiers at opposite ends of a line of Viet-Cong drop dead simultaneously as soon as Ransom opens fire, or as one Viet-Cong who finds himself still standing at the end of one of Ransoms attacks, suddenly drops dead!
The highlight of Strike Commando is the fight scene between Ransom and
the evil Russian commander Jakota that is so titanic it has to be
shown as a montage. Because despite both men being hugely muscle-bound
they fight like girls and are completely incapable of throwing a
punch. In a moment of SBIF brilliance the two men run at each other
from 20 feet apart, fail to attack each other in any way and crack
their heads together!!
In Conclusion
Strike Commando gets off to a slow start with far to much bonding with
local villagers and hopeless Viet-Cong for my liking but it is well
worth the wait to see the face off between Ransom and Jakota. To
encapsulate all my feelings about this film into a one-word quote I
would have to say –
"AMERICANSKI!!!"
